Secretariat restaurant. A family-friendly place

In the 1970s, it broke records in races all around the world. It was respected and admired. Secretariat. Horse extraordinaire. For many, a champion of all times. It was in honour of this champion horse that the restaurant located at Hippodrome in Sopot was named. Secretariat is a family-friendly restaurant with excellent cuisine.

-Time has shown that we are a family-friendly restaurant – say owners of Secretariat. – We attract clients who want to rest from the commotion of Monte Cassino in Sopot, and who at the same time search for delicious, exceptional cuisine. This is what we try to deliver, using only top-quality, local products. This means a lot to us. Our menu is bound to satisfy even the most demanding guests.

The restaurant, located off the beaten track and away from the noisy Monte Cassino Street, wins with its location. It’s a perfect place to rest and to celebrate delicious cuisine. It’s also a place inextricably linked to more than a hundred years of history of horse racing in Pomorskie region. This is when the Sopot-based Hippodrome became operational. The building, in which the restaurant is based, used to be a grandstand for spectators for many years. The grandstand, on the other hand, had been build from planks left over from the altar that stood at the Hippodrome during the mass concelebrated by Pope John Paul II.

-Our offer is broad, from fish dishes – and everyone knows a good fish is especially hard to come by by the sea – to meat specialties. We strongly recommend our Angus steak. Or if you’re up for something more delicate, turkey knuckle. Our menu also takes care of our youngest guests, with a special composition of favourite dishes. We cannot forget our icecream dessert, made with home made ice-cream – says Tomasz Górniak, head chef at Secretariat.

The new spring menu incudes, among others: oven-roasted gilt-head bream fish with salsa sauce, European bass in garlic and basil, or cod loins in vegetable paella. Meat menu has also been expanded with several new positions. These include, aside from the beforementioned turkey knuckle and Angus steak, honey ribs. A great comeback in the desserts’ section is the white chocolate and halvah parfait.

How does Secretariat work during races at the Hippodrome? – During competitions, we do not offer a special menu. However, guests can visit us from 10 a.m. . All events at the Hippodrome attract both local and foreign guests to the restaurant – say the owners.

Secretariat restaurant can hold up to 60 guests. Above the restaurant there is a lecture room with conference facilities, with a stunning view on the Hippodrome. Cocktails and business meetings take place in the smaller room. Larger events are organised in the event room, which can hold up to one hundred people.
